French artist who makes wooden sculpture was probably one of the first Europeans to use Lac, a pigment derived from insects. Historians know that the dark red dye is extracted from the small insects machine (Kerria lacca) that are hidden in trees to protect themselves are works of popular art in the Renaissance to the 15th century. However, researchers at the Metropolitan Museum of Art Morgan Madonna, estimates three centuries earlier than that period. Morgan recognized the dye-coated glass samples covering 25 microns, or about half the thickness of human hair.
